Each month The Licking County Coalition of Care Board of Directors meets to discuss the direction of this important organization. The Board is a team of like-minded volunteers who are committed to helping our neighbors in need and bringing hope to the community. July’s devotion message, shared by Board member Shannon Walker entitled “Hope Springs Eternal”, was based on Proverbs 23:18 “There is surely a future for you, and your hope will not be cut off”.
Shannon shared that one of the greatest gifts leaders can give to those around them is the gift of hope. Shannon reminded the group to never underestimate its power. People will continue working, struggling and trying if they have hope. Hope lifts an individual’s morale and improves their self-image. Hope re-energizes them and raises their expectations. Shannon shared that it is the job of a leader to hold hope high and to instill it in those we lead.
Never underestimating the power of hope is an important reminder to all of us. As the saying goes, hope springs eternal, but sometimes people in need lose sight of hope. In the midst of terrible struggle, hope may seem very far away. Many times, people only have hope if it is given to them, and the gift of hope is free. So remember to be persistent as the Bible says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” Galatians 6:9.
